Welcome to Bonaventure
So, Bonaventure is the oldest part of Weston. It was built separately from the Arvida side of the city, around the Bonaventure golf course, and it didn't even become part of Weston until 1997. There are 866 single family homes in here.
The single family homes are mostly in the Village Homes and Bonaventure Lakes, The Gables and La Costa. The county shows homes going up from 1977 into the late 1990s, and they go from about 1,800 square feet up to about 3,700, with a median around 2,500. The typical lot is about 8,400 square feet, which is bigger than a lot of the gated communities in Weston.
Most of Bonaventure isn't gated, and a lot of the listings mention the Bonaventure Town Center Club, so what I would suggest is ask about the club on any home you're looking at. If you want an older home on a bigger lot in Weston, you certainly need to check out Bonaventure.

A few things I found
Bonaventure trivia
When Weston incorporated in 1996, Bonaventure wasn't part of it. On April 1, 1997 Bonaventure voted to join Weston instead of Sunrise by almost two to one.
The Bonaventure golf course opened in 1970. It was designed by Joe Lee, and Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia and Jesper Parnevik all played the Dixie Amateur there.
Botaniko, the newer estate community, was built on part of the old Bonaventure golf course.
